I’m sure you’ve heard it said before; “having a child changes everything.” When I found out in June 2011 that we were expecting our first child, I had no idea the journey we were about to embark on. Those who know me and my husband well will attest to the fact that we weren’t “kid people”. I’m a researcher at heart, so I started to devour parenting books and dug into a lot of hot topics. One area I didn’t expect to become so passionate about what was goes on our skin. It all started when weighing the options between disposable and cloth diapers. In the end, I felt cloth was the way to go hands down. Then there was the issue of what diaper rash ointments to use, what kind of baby wash or bubble bath, what kind of sunscreen could safely be applied to my little guy… the list went on and on. AND, if I was so concerned about what went on him, shouldn’t I be equally concerned about what goes on myself and the rest of my family?
I started off buying natural and organic skin care products before taking the plunge into making my own. My first purchase was pretty basic… beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil and zinc oxide to make sun screen. That was the summer of 2012, and I haven’t looked back. Since then I’ve made not only sun screen, but each of the products you see for sale in my store for my own family. The products aren’t tested on animals… but they are tested on us! The internet is FULL of recipes to try, and it really is a matter of trial and error. What works for one person might not work for everyone. For each product I’ve tried my best to outline the reasons for each ingredient used, as well as any quirks I’ve run into. I also make the majority of my products on a per-order basis to ensure freshness and longevity. Some items – like my lip balm – are made in small batches of 12-16. Nearly all of my products include essential oils. When it comes to EOs, I err on the side of caution. Most oils are not recommended for children under the age of 2. A clear description of what oils are used in a specific product is included on the product page. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m not an herbalist, aromatherapist or essential oils expert - just a mom that cares about what goes on my family’s skin - and in turn cares about what goes on YOUR family’s skin! For additional information about the ingredients used in my products, please visit the ingredients page. Thank you for checking out B•Naturals! I firmly believe that natural, basic ingredients make for happy skin. Refreshingly simple: Butter. Beeswax. Beautiful. |
